Just like a movie scene, the founding of PUMA was very dramatic. From one shoe company named, "Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory" established by Rudolf and Adolf Dassler eventually split-up creating their own shoe factories due to a shallow misunderstanding. Rudolf first formed "Ruda" taking the first two letters from his full name Rudolf Dassler, which in 1948 changed to PUMA.
The rift between the Dassler brothers extend not only to their founding of their own footwear brands, but it also led to the division of loyal supporters and continued rivalry even up to their deaths without reconciling. Later years, the sons of the Dassler brothers Armin and Horst Dassler, who subsequently managed the shoe companies of their fathers made to agree amicably by sponsoring the Football player superstar Pele. Unfortunately, the rift between the cousins got worse calling off their peace settlement when Pele chose to promote and wore PUMA sportswear shoes.
Subsequently, in the mid-month of 1989 Armin Dassler and his brother sold 72% of their stocks to a Swiss business, and later in 2007 transferred management to the owner and retailer of the Gucci brand, which is indeed the best interest of PUMA Company.
At present, PUMA sportswear produces not only Athlete's footwear, but also expands production of apparels and accessories for men, women and kids retaining the line of Sports.
